The last band I played in, “Double Trouble,” started as a duo then developed into a guitar, bass, drums and saxophone combination over about 5 or 6 years. We named ourselves after the rhythm section of Stevie Ray Vaughn’s band. We played a lot of “Texas Blues” (people like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Winter, ZZ Top, a few songs from that popular Garry Moore album of the nineties called “Still Got The Blues For You”), but we also did some music from BB King, T-Bone Walker, Buddy Guy, John Myall and some more commercial music played on radio with a blues feel. We performed in hotels across an area between Bathurst, Lithgow and Katoomba. We were also regulars at the annual Lithgow Blues Festival and played several Bike Club rallies. We were also invited to perform at the prestigious, Sydney Harbourside Brasserie which would have been a fabulous opportunity, but unfortunately the guys in the band had other commitments.
These days I do solo gigs with acoustic guitar and acoustic bass in bars and restaurants, playing mostly older pop standards with a few, more modern songs and a few originals thrown in. Solo performance is very new for me.
A short story about a rather infamous gig:
